![]() You can replace the JRE inside the Starsector folder (some people claim that switching from JRE7 to JRE8 has performance benefits), but you'd need to change a config setting to allow it and the game won't run with anything newer than Java 9. Starsector ships with its own version of Java and doesn't touch your system's version. This change is also a placebo that won't affect the game's performance. All the executable does is call java.exe with the arguments inside the vmparams file, so making it LAA does nothing. Starsector.exe isn't the game, it's just a wrapper around Java. 30 shouldn't cause problems, but going lower than that can cause some obscure and ridiculous collision bugs. The vast Empire of humanity is split across sectors that have been cut off from each other. It has rapidly grown all over the universe, reaching a golden age that eventually finds an end as these gates stop working. Keep in mind, the game's logic runs at this same framerate. Humanity has unlocked intergalactic travel by using so-called stargates. This will make sudden FPS dips less common, but it'll do so by making the game always perform that poorly. I don't know if I'd call this "increasing performance". The game is basically space mount and blade. Starsector severely lacks in content after about 8 hrs. Sitting around babysitting said colony until it has a proper defense from the ridiculous amount of pirate attacks gets boring. ![]() Allocating more than 8 can reportedly cause performance and crashing problems. Starsector gets real boring, real fast once you get a colony up and running with a proper defense. 4 gigs is plenty for all but the most heavily modded setups. This is a great tip, and increasing RAM is the first thing a player should do if they plan to install mods. Make sure your java is the latest one, if not delete your java and install a fresh new version #basically the starsector.exe is 32 bit, by patching it with "large address aware" it will improve performance It is not advised to use this application if you have less than 3 GiB of RAM. ![]() Instructions how to do this are in spoiler below. 64-bit versions of Windows require no modifications to the operating system to benefit from this application however, in 32-bit versions of Windows, you must increase the user memory setting. When a 32-bit application is large address aware, it can access up to 4 GiB on 圆4 operating systems and all memory that isn't used by the operating system and other applications on x86.
